Tampa Bay Faux Finishes - Add Texture & Style With Custom Faux Finishing

'Faux finish' is a term used more broadly than it should  be. A true faux finish is exactly that : a FAUX or fake finish. When it is done artistically by someone of skill and experience , plain pieces of (usually) wood can be made to look so much like marble, stone, or very fine wood (such as mahogany or oak),that a person looking at them would automatically accept that it is indeed what the artist intended it to look like. The palace of Louis XVI at Versailles outside Paris, France contains a great deal of this type of work.Almost all the 'marble' columns and many panels both of 'fine' wood and 'Italian marble' are really only exceptional  faux finishes done by artisans of the day.Indeed the french example is that by which all that has come since is judged. I have studied and practiced these techniques for many years and offer examples here for you to see. I have enhanced many residences using these finishes and they add remarkably to a decor when used with taste and restraint.

Other finishes which are rendered using tools like simple rags and sea sponges are often called by the above term but they are more specifically ' art ' or specialty finishes and are applied to larger surface areas ,as entire walls are often painted using these techniques and these tools . They do have,as far as application and use of transparent color interspersed with opaque color, a great deal in common with marbling etc. so I have included these images of these sorts of techniques on this page.
